The 3 P's of learning the piano....and growing your social enterprise!

Last fall, my daughter started taking piano lessons.  I sit in each lesson with her.  I take notes so that I can help her practice at home.  One day, her teacher taught her about the three P's for learning piano.  In listening, I realized that these also pertain to launching your social mission.

  1. P is for Patience: For anyone who has started their own business or organization to bring their social impact mission to fruition knows that it takes a lot of patience.  There are no "overnight sensations."  It takes time.  And patience.

  2. P is for Precision: Within the context of piano, this means listening and being careful of what you do.  Indeed, in launching your business or organization it is important to listen to who you are serving (and who you may be selling to).  And, be focused in the actions that you take.  Limited resources means you cannot do and try everything at once.  Rather you need to focus and take precise action.

  3. P of for Perseverance: You must keep going!   In piano it gets frustrating when you are not 'getting it' and you have to keep practicing and keep trying. When you are launching and growing your business, this is the same lesson!  You need to keep trying until you get it.  You will have to pivot and tweak but you need to keep trying.
